GROWTH GROUPS
GOALS AND PURPOSES
Everything we do at Morrison Hill Christian Church is done through the lens of The Great Commission. (Matthew 28:16-20) You can learn more about the priorities this passage inspired in greater detail here. We believe with all our hearts that Growth Groups is the absolute best way to realize these priorities.
Spiritual Growth
If we’re not growing and changing, we are regressing. We don’t grow in righteousness only by the sinful things we eliminate from our lives. We also grow in righteousness by the good we add to our lives. We have to focus on both. This is what scripture defines as discipleship. Making disciples and developing discipleship is the command the Lord gave the church, and this is always accomplished best in small groups.
Intentional Diversity
The essence of fellowship is sharing a common life together. In Christ, we are all brothers and sisters in the family of God, and it is our primary responsibility on earth to act like it. We must love each other well, and invest in one another's lives. Sharing personal victories and struggles with others is a vital part of the Christian walk not only because it helps the sharer grow, but because it helps the listener grow too. We must be intentional about who we surround ourselves with the most, and one of the best ways to accomplish this is by joining a small group.
Transparent Connections
Vulnerability makes it possible to develop authenticity. We don’t like to reveal besetting sins or weaknesses we are trying to overcome, but hiding them protects them. None of us are perfect, so we all need a Savior. If we present a false front of who we want others to think are, we live in hypocrisy. We must all be determined to be transparent with others, and in small groups, we are given the perfect opportunity to put this into practice.
Strategic Outreach
This may well be the biggest need for your group to develop. Christians who never attempt to expand the Kingdom of God are not Christians at all. Growth Groups provide a space for believers to be held accountable and to be encouraged. Together we are stronger, and together is the only way we have a shot at helping Jesus to fulfill His promise.
